Birthday for Him

Marcus’ birthday was last week and he turned 36! We celebrated and ate at Red Robin (one of his favorite places)which provides a nice, casual atmosphere with a conducive menu for the whole family. Also, I made his favorite cake-lemon!

I wanted to do something special of course, but also wanted to add a little twist. So, at the last minute I decided to write a birthday riddle for him and hide his present-almost like a mini scavenger hunt.

He had just put Lucas to bed and as he came down the steps, Lauren and I presented him with his B-day cards and then it was show time! I recited the birthday riddle and this is what it said:

A Birthday Riddle

 It is your birthday

It is finally here

                                        It’s a day to celebrate

                                        But, wait…a hill is near

Not quite yet “over the hill”

But very close you are

Your twenties are gone

And your thirties are becoming a distant star

Now for your present

You will have to search for it

Look all around

It may take you a bit

Okay, okay I will give you a clue

Where do you go?

To look for something new

It is a place to pick

Out something cold or hot

If you guessed the kitchen

All I can say is…NOT

No, it is not the kitchen

Try, try again

Go back through the clue

And begin again

A place to go

To find something to wear

Like coats, jackets or
Perhaps things to put on your hair.

Riddle answer =closet

Marcus searched and searched and searched. We had to start giving him “temperature clues.”  Lauren would yell out “Daddy, you are getting hot!” when he would get close to the hidden present. After about 10 minutes, he finally found the place which was the hall closet and he eventually found his present hanging up in the closet unsuspecting and unassuming. It was a suit he wanted!

It was fun to spice things up a bit and we enjoyed watching him scramble around looking everywhere for his birthday present.
